Gatsby Technical Education Projects (GTEP) was
established by the Trustees of the
Gatsby Charitable Foundation in 1996.
GTEP is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.
GTEP develops and manages a range of innovative programmes in the field of
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
GTEP receives its funding from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. Since 1996,
the Foundation has awarded grants totalling around ?00 million to several
hundred projects in STEM education and GTEP has managed or advised on the
development of most of these.
Our current work focuses on the following aims:
- to support an increase in intermediate-level STEM skills within the UK
workforce, by promoting recognition of the importance of science,
engineering and IT technicians and supporting the development and delivery
of technical training pathways (e.g. apprenticeships) and relevant 14-19
qualifications.
- to support the teaching of science to 11-19 year olds, by seeking to
influence national policy around teacher supply and 14-19 science pathways
(e.g. Triple Science GCSE and A Level take-up), and promoting activities
which stimulate the use of engaging practical activity in science lessons
and STEM Clubs.
- to support selected national initiatives which aim to increase
coordination and collaboration between the wide range of organisations and
projects promoting STEM education;
- to inform and influence policy makers and opinion formers to secure
lasting, positive impact on the education and skills landscape. We do this
by sharing the results of our proof-of-principle projects and by
commissioning policy-relevant research.
Details of GTEP’s current projects can be found on the

the main Gatsby website.
